An old married couple, he a film journalist, she a psychoanalyst, have lived together for decades in an old Parisian apartment. After many years together, the wife's memory is rapidly deteriorating, leaving her barely able to cope with everyday life, while her husband is still more active in life. In view of their different states, they are confronted with the realization that they must die alone. An intimate, gentle study of age-related decline and the certainty of the inevitability of death, which creates a great closeness through the detailed depiction of everyday life. By working largely with split screen, the film makes the isolation of the main characters vividly tangible. (filmdienst.de)
