Cultural scientist Yumin Li gives an insight into her research on the extraordinary transnational film career of SONG actress Anna May Wong (1905-1961). She sheds light on the significance of the Chinese-American actress as a pioneer in film history. As the first Hollywood star of Chinese origin, Anna May Wong is regarded today as a symbol of self-empowerment.
