Lecture with Annkathrin Richter | Moderation: Dr. Josephine Ulbricht (GfZL)
After the capture of the city of Leipzig, a central task of the Americans was to organize the initial care and accommodation of the forced labourers, concentration camp prisoners and prisoners of war, who were henceforth referred to as "displaced persons" (DPs). For the DPs, liberation was often associated with hopes but also uncertainties. For many, the search began for relatives or for opportunities to return to their countries of origin or to start a new life in another country. In her lecture, Annkathrin Richter will shed light on the perspectives of DPs in the immediate post-war period.
Annkathrin Richter is a member of the Riebeckstraße 63 association. She studied medieval/ modern history and wrote her master's thesis on displaced persons in Leipzig.
