3344 tons of freight make their way along the Rhine. Here, on a barge, young Rudmer grows up among containers. The work is hard, the shifts dictated by the logic of the global flow of goods. No trace of privacy. But Rudmer wants to assert himself, to get his chance to stand on the bridge one day: As captain. Carlo Kohal spent four years filming on the Panerai again and again and found fascinating, monumental images that are underpinned by a congenial film score. The film always remains at the eye level of the young protagonist with almost playful observations of everyday life. The result is an impressively entertaining film that deserves one thing above all else: The big screen. Jan Sebening

Biography

Max Carlo Kohal has been working as a director for documentary films and in advertising since completing a bachelor's degree in production design at the Kunsthochschule Basel. Another mainstay is photography. VRACHT is his feature film debut and graduation project at the ZhdK Zurich.
