Analivia Cordeiro spent two years working on a documentary film about her father, the Italian-Brazilian artist Waldemar Cordeiro. On the occasion of the exhibition at the ZKM on the occasion of Cordeiro's 100th birthday, the ZKM is now presenting "Waldemar Cordeiro - Exact Fantasy" and invites you to a subsequent discussion with the director.
Analivia Cordeiro's film provides impressive insights into the life and work of a visionary artist. Waldemar Cordeiro (1925-1973) is considered a key figure in Brazilian concrete art and a pioneer of computer art. Through personal stories and eyewitness accounts from historians, artists and companions, a multifaceted portrait emerges: from his classical education in Rome to his formative role in the Brazilian avant-garde and his groundbreaking experiments with digital media.
As an artist and theorist, Cordeiro combined art with technology and social commitment. His works and writings radically questioned traditional concepts of art and advocated an art with social responsibility. In addition to his artistic work, he had a lasting influence on urban Brazil as a landscape architect and urban planner.
Following the screening, the artist Analivia Cordeiro will talk to Margit Rosen (ZKM) about the making of the film and her father's life and work. How did an artist work who left behind such a diverse and extensive oeuvre? What expectations did he associate with the artistic use of new technologies? These and other questions open up new perspectives on his artistic vision.
The film, shot in Portuguese and English, will be shown with German subtitles. The subsequent discussion with Analivia Cordeiro will be held in English.
