CARING COMMUNITIES
Traces of an art project by Queers of Color
27.6.-5.10.2025
Since April 2025, the CARING COMMUNITIES project , under the artistic direction of Dr. Alexis Rodríguez Suárez, has created a meeting space for a group of queer people of color. They have set out to find traces of queers of color in Germany and elsewhere. Inspired by José Esteban Muñoz's work, they searched history for moments of queer futurity in which queer longings and utopias are expressed. At the heart of the project is what Gloria Anzaldúa has defined as a magical and transformative act: storytelling. This means telling one's own life in a meaningful way and listening to the stories of others in order to create and maintain a community that connects several generations.
The presentation, which can be seen at STADT_RAUM from 27.6. to 5.10. 2025, brings together moments that are no longer there. With stories and the traces they have left behind, a source of energy and inspiration has been created, a space that promotes empathy, imagination and empowerment for queers of color. Memories of places, texts, songs, images and flavors fill the space with fragments and impressions that linger in the air like scents.
