A plank floor, drumming hoofbeats, wafts of mist. A lonely melody so beautiful that flowers sprout on desert ground.
Orpheus and Eurydice fall in love. Marriage, everyday life, boredom.
They amuse themselves elsewhere in the marriage trot. Orpheus plays his music for the nymphs, Eurydice can no longer stand his oh-so-magical melodies and meets up with the shepherd next door.
But is the shepherd really who he says he is? - No! And so it begins!
Off to Olympus and down to the underworld with a clatter of hooves. Eurydice decides to take a risk and follows the god of the underworld.
And Orpheus? Public opinion spoils his joy at being a widower and he sets off to get Eurydice back. But wait, Jupiter, the god of all gods, also wants her.
Lehmann and Wenzel are now back on stage as a duo for the first time in 10 years in a new production. Following on from their first stage play together, in which the lover dies at the end, they now set off into the underworld to bring back the lost one. Loosely based on Offenbach's "Orpheus in the Underworld" and numerous adaptations from 1850 to the present day, they play band. They load themselves up with western guitars, drums, rattles and spoons and play more than just the hits from the operetta.
