How does voluntary service abroad affect life afterwards? A few years ago, seven young people decided to leave their familiar surroundings and their everyday lives to complete a weltwärts volunteer service abroad. For three volunteers from Tanzania and Cameroon, it was their first trip outside the African continent. They spent a year supporting a social organization in Germany. Four German volunteers opted for a project assignment in Gambia, Ghana and Peru.

Years after this very intensive period of their lives, they are confronted with pictures and statements from this time. How do they see their voluntary service today? What similarities and differences characterize their memories? And above all: how did their voluntary service affect their lives afterwards? A thought-provoking, perspective-rich film about an exchange program between the Global North and the Global South.
