Dance performance by: Tümay Kılınçel
Based on Raqs, the so-called belly dance or oriental dance, WE 2 RAQS negotiates and deconstructs orientalist and colonial image structures. At the invitation of Kılınçel, five dancers create a collective Raqs body through their interpretation of different genres. Accompanied by a live band, the work recontextualizes dance as a feminist, self-empowering practice that becomes visible as an art form on institutional stages.
