He did not speak a word, he seemed rigid and lifeless, but the ghostly sight of him made my hair stand on end, cold drops stood on my forehead, and all my fibers quivered with horror. - "Get thee away," I cried, beside myself, "thou art Satan himself, thou art the sacrilegious murderer, but thou hast no power over me!" - E.T.A. Hoffmann "The Devil's Elixirs"
Nature humbles us with its unpredictability, so we try to contain it. Technology promises control, so we let it consume us. In the end, what we fear is not unpredictability itself, but the lack of power over it. - Chat GPT
In our human existence, we have become accustomed to fearing nature in its unpredictability. Often enough it shows us our limits in our dwarfish hubris! We would like to contemplate its exoticism in a prefabricated frame in deep fear and admiration, while at the same time we chum up to technology and fearlessly expose our innermost selves. The time of mysterious, multidimensional allusions is over; instead, the shadowless existence of the overpowering question of lies and truth, appearance and reality reigns. Nature is close to us, it inspires us, we use it as a namesake for our everyday technological helpers, without which we feel helpless. While we continue to strive to transform the natural environment into artificial paradises, we are losing control over technological processes that are allowed to run rampant and run wild.
The exhibition WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN UNPREDICTABLY RESILIENT IN THIS COLOURFUL DYSTOPY. AND OTHER SELECTED WORKS... is the world premiere of a current work that deals with our zeitgeist of a general loss of control. Older works will also be exhibited. A hybrid of painting, photography and sound art. There will also be some pictures by Felix Hpunkt, who works primarily with graphic drawings and paintings.
SIMONE HUNDRIESER
SIMONE HPUNKT (Simone Hundrieser) studied media art at the Bauhaus in Weimar and at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. She is currently completing her Master's degree (Sound Studies and Sonic Arts) at the UdK in Berlin. Her current artistic research focuses primarily on the technology that surrounds us everywhere and the human relationship to nature, its unpredictability and the human quest for control.
For this exhibition, SIMONE HPUNKT has teamed up with Barbie Brown, a djane and radio play producer, to work on a method of combining auditory sound experiences based on sonification (the sonic interpretation of data of all kinds) with painting and photography.
Felix Hpunkt passed his A-levels in art with 9 points. That should be enough.
