Weinfrühling am Ludwig-Beck-Platz

In the organizer's words:

First wine spring at Ludwig-Beck-Platz

Mother's Day premiere in mid-May

The "Weinfrühling" wine and winegrowers' festival will take place for the first time on Mother's Day: From May 9 to 11, small, self-marketing family wineries will present their authentic wines around the striking Wappenbrunnen fountain on Ludwig-Beck-Platz in Steglitz-Zehlendorf. People who make wine meet those who enjoy it. There will be snacks to go with the wine - from tarte flambée to cheese specialties - and live musicians will provide entertainment. On Mother's Day Sunday, regional arts and crafts will complement this special wine and town festival offer.

Wine-loving Berliners should not miss out on the chance to spend three days getting to know the winegrowing tradition right on their doorstep without having to travel far on Mother's Day weekend in Steglitz-Zehlendorf.

"The wine is made outside - and drunk"

Many family wineries have been making their way to enrich the Family & Friends markets in Berlin for 30 years. In addition to the wineries Holdenried, Zehnthof Eller and Christian Kupper from Germany's largest wine-growing region Rheinhessen - known for its dry white wines - these include the wineries Thomas Lersch and Ökonomierat August E. Anheuser from the Nahe and the winery Ute and Hermann Sommer from the southern wine route in the Palatinate. From Austria, the Wandl winery will enrich the Wine Spring, and the Matteo Braidot winery from Friuli will bring the Italian way of life - true "abilità di vita" - to Berlin.

Wine spring & winemakers recommend themselves!

Because you should definitely enjoy a good wine with a good meal, the wineries have brought along the characteristics of their wines and/or a few culinary recommendations exclusively for the Wine Spring. Did you know that in addition to tarte flambée and cheese, roasted flavors, seafood or chocolate also go perfectly with the wines produced and enhance each other's flavors?

From the Palatinate:

  • Well chilled (important!), the Pinot Noir Rosé dry from Ute and Hermann Sommer from the Southern Wine Route is an ideal and delicately fruity terrace wine for sociable evenings, which goes perfectly with light meat dishes as well as fish and poultry.

From the Nahe:

  • The Thomas Lersch winery between Bingen and Bad Kreuznach is one of the youngest family wineries on the Nahe, yet it still wins awards because their passion for good red wine, white wine and rosé is always evident. The family works together and consciously and sustainably in harmony with nature.
  • Over 150 years old, the Ökonomierat August E. Anheuser winery stands for the sensible combination of technology and tradition. The fine wines come from selected vineyards in Kreuznach, partly from the Nahe, but also from Rheinhessen. The noble Riesling grape with its fruity bouquet and fine acidity ensures a lively taste. The classic varieties of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Kerner and Scheurebe are always popular, as are Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

From Austria:

  • The Austrian winery Wandl has switched completely to organic viticulture and has refrained from using glyphosate since 2010 and insecticides since 2012. It thus assumes responsibility towards nature and society - in line with the motto "We are WANDLbar". In their opinion, good wine not only needs tradition, but above all sensitivity, presence and passion. They take a close look at how the grapes are grown, at what happens in the vineyard, and know exactly when to intervene and when to let nature do its work. Their slogan fits perfectly: "We live our wine".

from Rheinhessen:

  • At the Holdenried winery, which travels to Berlin with wine, sparkling wine, spirits, wine jelly, wine vinegar and grape juice, family meets tradition: in spring, Jörg and Felix Holdenried have their hands full, as the labor-intensive period in viticulture begins with soil care work and plant protection. For over 100 years, they have been following the course of the seasons in the heart of Rheinhessen to produce tasty wines.
  • Weingut Kupper is present with wine, sparkling wine, punch and a still. Their credo: "Wine is our daily companion, it accompanies our regional cuisine, it bears the stamp of the region in which it was produced, it has the taste of the culture of a particular area, it stands for conviviality and togetherness."
  • Weingut Zehnthof Eller with wine, sparkling wine, punch and liqueur - partly vegan and suitable for histamine-intolerant wine lovers: The family has specialized in producing histamine-tested wines, making it a pioneer in Germany. Even red wine can be enjoyed with histamine intolerance. "A good recommendation for allergy sufferers", according to the Gault Millau wine guide. Another special feature is that the wine is produced without the addition of animal substances. So vegans can also enjoy it here.

From northern Italy:

  • The characterful white wines from the Italian winery Matteo Braidot in particular, with their unmistakable aromas and flavors, define the image of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region - although there are also first-class wines among the reds. They are the result of the careful selection of grapes that are typical of the Friuli region. Simple, yet refined and elegant, they show respect for tradition and the many years of experience of the dedicated winemakers.

Of course, the wine must also be accompanied by the right culinary delights. The "enjoyable cult on two wheels" of Jamie's Petite Raclette cannot be overlooked. Bright red, it stands out and offers a wonderful combination of bread and cheese: the latter throws lushly browned bubbles before it is spread almost lasciviously on a crispy ciabatta, freshly baked stone oven bread or, if desired, on a warm rosemary potato under the guidance of the raclette specialist ...

If you like something light and perhaps sweet to go with your wine, Crêpes-Catering-Berlin by S. Grasso-Bauschlicher is the right place for you: she will tempt you with the aroma of freshly made crêpes - sweet, savory and spicy variations based on French recipes.

"Wine stands for conviviality and living together," explains the Kupper family from Rheinhessen. And in addition to art, wine and culinary delights, sociability also includes music, right? The live music on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 pm comes from Berlin neo-crooner Lenard Streicher & Band. When these five gentlemen in their fine clothes and prime age pull out all the stops with their musical skills, you simply have to dance along to their unique mix of swing, jump & jive, rockabilly, boogie and rock'n'roll!

Claudia Scholz and Stefan Piltz, who founded the Family & Friends association almost two decades ago, want to turn Ludwig-Beck-Platz into a place for art and enjoyment with their extraordinary neighborhood festivals. Their mission is to bring people from the neighborhood together and offer them an artisanal, cultural and culinary experience. In the exchange with the people who create and present the art and culinary delights here, it becomes clear that there is a personal story behind every work of art and every bottle of wine.

Arts & crafts from the region on Mother's Day

Potters, painters, designers and artists of all kinds will transform Ludwig-Beck-Platz in Lichterfelde West around the striking Wappenbrunnen fountain into a creative art mile on Mother's Day Sunday. The colorful assortment is as varied as the materials and shapes used: From wood, textiles, ceramics, glass, paper or soapstone, shapely hats, decorative home accessories, flattering everyday objects or fine jewelry are created directly on site. Practical and beautiful, surprisingly noble or superfluous and ingenious - what the handcrafted objects have in common is their original originality. Above all, artists whose workshops and studios are located outside the capital like to take advantage of this great opportunity to present themselves and their work, sometimes live.

Shaded in spring

Sinamay is a very popular material for fine headgear. Angelika Klose uses sisal-hemp fibers to produce particularly dimensionally stable, delicate spring and summer hats. Ladies are guaranteed to stand out when strolling around the Weinfrühling! The most important thing for the hat maker, who likes to be inspired by costumes, is the harmony between the personality and appearance of the hat wearer. For this reason, she enjoys selling and advising just as much as making the hats themselves.

Wooden creations from master craftsmen
In Kai Marquardt 's hands, the wood from the regional tree is transformed into a unique one-off. Utility and decorative items such as vases, bowls, jewelry, writing utensils, chopping boards and drinking vessels vie for the attention of visitors with particularly good taste and a love of the natural at the Weinfrühling.
