Free Russians e.V. invites you to the screening of an innovative documentary film that has won awards at the Berlinale and the Sundace Film Festival:
"Welcome to Chechnya" provides a rare glimpse into the struggle for survival of LGBTQ people in the Russian republic of Chechnya.
Since 2017, Ramzan Kadyrov, the tyrannical leader of Chechnya, has been pursuing a cruel agenda aimed at "cleansing the blood" of the LGBTQ community. Under his direction, the government arrests, tortures and executes people. Without help from the Kremlin and in the face of only timid international protest, activists are taking fate into their own hands. In his documentary, David France uses an extraordinary method to protect the identity of those affected and to denounce this crime - and tells the story of a remarkable group of people who stand up to evil.
