WER BIN ICH? TÔI LÀ AI? – Kurzfilme aus Vietnam

In the organizer's words:

This year's KURZSUECHTIG guest country program provides an insight into Vietnamese cinema. What influences shape Vietnamese identities? What is life like in Vietnam today and how do those who have left the country process their experiences?

Films by Vietnamese filmmakers are in conversation with works by members of the Vietnamese diaspora in Germany. Both perspectives reveal tensions between tradition and modernity, questioning the importance of cultural heritage while drawing meaning from it. From the hectic streets of Saigon and the chaos of AI-generated images, to the picturesque bay of Halong, to the factories of the GDR, the program reflects a wide range of experiences. What unites them all is the search for belonging and the desire to understand themselves and the world.

All films will be shown in their original language with English subtitles.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with selected filmmakers and the awarding of the Audience Award.

What unites them all is a search for belonging and a desire to understand themselves and the world around them.

All movies will be shown in original language version with English subtitles.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with selected filmmakers and the voting for the Country in Focus audience award.
