"Utopia gets better and better while we wait for it." The stories and commentaries by author, film and TV maker Alexander Kluge repeatedly tell of how stubbornness and basic trust spur people on to a constant search for happiness. The synopsis for Kluge's legendary film "Artists in the circus dome: at a loss", for example, begins like this: "Leni Peikert is the daughter of an artist who died in the circus. She imagines that she will found her own circus, a circus worthy of a dead man. She says: I want to change the circus because I love it. Because she loves it, she will not change it. Why? Because love is a conservative instinct. Leni: That's not true." At the Kammerspiele, a small troupe of fortune seekers, accompanied by puppets from Michael Pietsch's workshop and rescue props from the theater's archives, take on the challenge of Alexander Kluge's exuberant work. In danger and extreme distress, each performance will begin a "battle with hopeless material". A circus revue in which the impossible becomes possible. Repeated failure and then, hopefully, rescue at the last minute. What does "rehearsal" mean, what "premiere"? Isn't every repair attempt, every bomb disposal a first attempt?
