Mephisto performance in the style of the 1920s
The devil - or is it a "she"? - has always had seduction on his side. While
the path of virtue is described as rocky, wealth, erotic fulfillment and power beckon to those who sell their souls. With constant reference to Goethe's immortal classic "Faust", the performance shows the rise, political seductiveness, fame and fall of an initially poor musician. It spans an arc from the trenches of the First World War through the upheavals of the Weimar Republic, National Socialism and the Second World War to the 1950s in a divided Germany. At the center, however, is Mephisto, already the secret star of every "Faust" performance, and his journey from the mythological fall from heaven to our uncertain future. With live music, singing, a little dancing and plenty of flair from the "Golden 1920s".
A cooperation with the exhibition "How golden was it really?" - Lünen in the 1920s (Museum Stadt Lünen). A production in collaboration with the Faust Archive Knittlingen and "Auerbachs Keller Leipzig". The performance will be followed by a discussion.
