The transparency of salaries and wages is an important cornerstone for equal and fair pay for all genders. Politicians have also recognized this. In 2017, the Pay Transparency Act was introduced to make equal pay for equal work a reality. The question now is: does the law live up to this claim? There are doubts about this: the gender pay gap has remained unchanged at 18% nationwide for many years.

In our expert talk with Parissa Rahimian, we take a critical look at the current legal situation and upcoming reforms in relation to pay transparency:

• What are my personal rights as an employee* that I can demand from my employers?
• What is still missing from current legislation - how could pay transparency be improved?
• What legal changes are pending and what does this mean for us as employees?

Parissa Rahimian is a lawyer and researches anti-discrimination law at Bucerius Law School. In this context, she deals intensively with the Pay Transparency Act and the EU Pay Transparency Directive.
