MICHEL
Tell me about how you wrote QUARTETT .

HEINER
I was sitting on the top floor of a villa near Rome. My wife lived in the lower rooms with another man who was madly in love with her. I'm sure there was an energy there.

MICHEL
QUARTETT is your most frequently performed play in Germany.

HEINER
I'm afraid ... What interests you about it?

MICHEL
The discourse on sex is subject to the regime of power - knowledge - desire. I'm interested in how this regime works. I am not interested in knowing whether it is forbidden or permitted, whether its meaning is affirmed or its effects denied, whether the words used to describe it are restrained or not; I am more interested in the fact that people talk about it, who talks about it, I am interested in the places and points of view from which people speak, the institutions that encourage people to speak and that store and disseminate what is said, in short the "discursivization" of sex.
