WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SEE?– ON BEING WATCHED

In the organizer's words:

Part 2: - ON BEING WATCHED
Performance, developed on the basis of WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SEE?
Premiere: May 31, 17.00
Further dates: May 31, 19.30 / June 1, 15.30 + 18.00

The performance project WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SEE? - ON BEING WATCHED consists of two separate parts and is performed by two performers in a specially developed spatial setting. In the first part, WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SEE?, the audience meets the performers in one-to-one encounters. The second part - ON BEING WATCHED - results from the movement material generated in part one for a larger audience.

How do I look at another body? How do I evaluate what I see? As a spectator, what do I expect from a performance? What do I take for granted? What are my personal criteria? What do I not want to see? What do I like to identify with?
The performance thematizes the moment of the viewing body, the spectator. Expectations, viewing habits, insecurities and the resulting power structures between performers and viewers are at the center of the work. These physical modes of action are particularly relevant in our inter-bodily interaction. The "consumer behavior of the gaze" observed here is questioned and the potential and personal responsibility associated with one's own gaze is made tangible.

In the one-to-one encounters between performers and visitors in the first part, various movement material is shown and explored in a dialog with the audience. The performers create, model and alienate the movement material and the situation in the space according to the comments and needs of the visitors. The resulting archive is further developed in - ON BEING WATCHED into a performative setting for 12 visitors. In contrast to WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SEE?, the focus is on the gazes to which the performing bodies are exposed.
