WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN – ŠTO TE NEMA

The Srebrenica massacre is regarded in Europe as the greatest crime against humanity since the end of the Second World War. On July 11, 1995, Bosnian Serb units captured the town of Srebrenica under the leadership of military commander Ratko Mladić and killed over 8,000 Muslim Bosnians, men and boys in the days that followed. 30 years after the genocide in Srebrenica, their families are still searching for their missing loved ones.

Where Have You Been accompanies the artist Aida Sehović on her return to Bosnia-Herzegovina. For over 15 years, she traveled around the world with her participatory, nomadic monument ŠTO TE NEMA to draw attention to the genocide and to imagine a more peaceful world. Now the bereaved gather at the site of the crime to fill thousands of small ceramic cups with coffee - in memory of the victims. As they mourn together, painful questions remain: What does "never again" mean in a world where perpetrators live with impunity? How can art and empathy help to fill the gap left by immeasurable loss and trauma? Aida Šehović and Mirko Pincelli will talk about these and other questions after the screening.

Aida Šehović is a Bosnian-American artist and the initiator of ŠTO TE NEMA, a participatory memorial to the Srebrenica genocide that was realized in 15 cities worldwide between 2006 and 2020. Mirko Pincelli is an award-winning director and cinematographer with a background in photojournalism
