Belgian post-punk band announces further dates for 2024

Live in Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Bremen, Kiel, Postdam, Bielefeld, Schorndorf and Neunkirchen in October

Current album "The Great Calm" was released on February 23rd

Belgian five-piece Whispering Sons offer a dark and unique blend of experimental and frenetic post-punk. The driving instruments combined with Fenne Kuppens' deep vocals create a constant sense of unease that has been inherent in their music from the beginning. With their energetic and captivating performance, the band has established themselves as a must-see live act.

In recent years, Whispering Sons have slowly but surely redrawn their own boundaries and outgrown themselves. While their debut album "Image" (2018) was theatrical and expansive, the following album "Several Others" (2021) focused more on their greatest strength: sheer, unpretentious intensity. After the release of "Several Others", the band began working on a new album over a period of two years.

On February 23, 2024, their third work, "The Great Calm", was released, which might surprise long-time Whispering Sons fans. It is less gloomy than "Several Others" and less pompous than "Image". However, the typical Whispering Sons identity is still present in every song, as the band never strays far from their raw energy and emotion. The new album may be more upbeat and playful, but the dark undertone is still there. The interior of a car destroyed by fire that adorns the album's cover is in keeping with this wider sense of renewal.

The band decided to self-produce their third album with Bert Vliegen, who had already worked as a sound engineer on "Image" and "Several Others" and joined the band in 2021 after taking over on bass. With Bert's experience as a producer and the determined Whispering Sons, the greater creative control paid off. The recording of "The Great Calm" became a true collaboration where each band member was able to express something of themselves and ultimately brought the band closer together.

"The Great Calm" was recorded in four weeks - two of which were spent in the studio before being finalized on a small Dutch island off the North Sea coast. The power, energy and beauty behind the creation of "The Great Calm" can be felt in each of the 12 songs:

After Whispering Sons played three sold-out German shows in Munich, Berlin and Hamburg in March and April 2024, the tour continues in the fall! In October, the band will play eight more shows in Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Bremen, Kiel, Postdam, Bielefeld, Schorndorf and Neunkirchen.
