"Munich. Read and let read": What did Munich and its book people listen to in their time? The author and journalist Michael Schleicher takes a literary-musical walk and meets creative people from "Isar-Athen" to "Wahnmoching" and today's Munich.

Based on the history of the L. Werner bookshop, which is one of the oldest in the city at over 140 years old, he describes Munich's cultural development and formulates a declaration of love to the world of books. After all, bookshops are much more than just places where books are sold. Their history itself tells stories.

He is accompanied on this journey by the Ensemble Luise, which makes the decades resound: The journey takes the musicians and the author from the end of the 19th century through the wild 1920s to the present day.

Michael Schleicher is head of the feature and media editor of the "Münchner Merkur" and "tz". Before that, he was speechwriter for Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria and the Central Council of Jews. His most recent books are "München. Lesen und lesen lassen (Verlag Klinkhardt & Biermann) and "Boxing Cuba" (Hirmer Verlag).

Ensemble Luise is a chamber music ensemble with variable instrumentation. With varied and lively programs, it performs classical works as well as rarely performed composers and contemporary music. Ensemble Luise impressed children and adults alike last autumn with their concert program "Wolferl's World" at the Neuhauser Trafo.
