Imagine this: The person you've recently fallen hopelessly in love with tells you that he's going to take part in a Big Brother-style reality show with 16 average Dutch people, completely isolated from the outside world. You beg him not to go, but then he reveals that it's all part of an art project and of course it won't be real. There's nothing wrong with 'art', after all, and with that he disappears into the television. She nervously tries to stream the latest episodes of the show via her shaky VPN connection and her heart falters with every moment in the hot tub.
Inspired by the absurdity of this reality, Linde Dercon decides to start her own art project: BESCHEIDENHEIT oder Wie mein Freund im Fernseher verschwand. An act of revenge on her boyfriend's art project. Whether it's about love, art or reality TV, each of them shapes our view of modesty in its own way.
During her engagement at Theaterhaus Jena, Linde Dercon staged this bizarre and scenic reading in the performance laboratory there. The evening, which was produced in creative collaboration with Thomas Spijkerman, can now also be seen at the Oval Office.
