Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra / Johannes Wildner

The unique Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra has been continuing the artistic legacy of the legendary Vienna Strauss Orchestra since 1966, after it was disbanded by Eduard Strauss I in New York in 1901.

The grandson and last professional musician of the Strauss dynasty, Eduard Strauss II, revived the idea of the family's own orchestra by founding the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra. Since then, the orchestra has made guest appearances all over the world, presenting the works of the Strauss dynasty - above all the festive melodies of their artistic ancestors, the two "waltz kings", Johann Strauss (father) and Johann Strauss (son).

It is a great honor to be able to play in this traditional orchestra. The musicians of the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra are members of the most important Austrian top orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra.

Conducting the orchestra will be the former Vienna Philharmonic conductor Johannes Wildner, who, as one of Austria's leading conductors, has worked with other renowned orchestras such as the Arena di Verona, the Prague State Opera, the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic in addition to the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra.

The program of this concert in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg includes the lively melodies of the Strauss dynasty such as the Viennese waltz "On the Beautiful Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss (son). Around 200 years after the Viennese waltz became an integral part of cultural life in Vienna, the city of music, it was recognized as an intangible UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.
