"Winter Music" 2024 invites you to a weekend of sonic renewal and remembrance. At the heart of the festival is the idea of building a bridge between generations and painting a multi-layered picture of the present. On the one hand, composers such as York Höller and Ernstalbrecht Stiebler, who have combined traditional acoustic instrumental music with innovative technologies in a visionary way, will be honored, and recently deceased Academy members such as Peter Eötvös and Thomas Kessler will be commemorated. On the other hand, new members such as Liza Lim, George Lewis and Christopher Fox will be represented with current works that boldly look to the future, and young ensembles such as the Fabrik Quartet will be invited. Special highlights of the festival are two panel discussions in which the audience has the opportunity to experience and exchange ideas with twelve participating members of the Akademie der Künste, many of whom are newcomers.
