Lecture by Prof. Dr. Christian Schwarzenegger
The lecture deals with a paradoxical development in our profoundly mediatized society. On the one hand, it is now easier than ever for people to access the world's accumulated knowledge and diverse sources of information. On the other hand, there is so much potential knowledge and false information available that there is often no longer even agreement on what counts as knowledge and how we as a society can agree on the basics of what we consider to be true and real. The tendency towards perceived truths and the conflicting confrontation of different realities is not a consequence of a lack of knowledge, but rather a reaction to being overwhelmed by the wealth of information available. The speaker explains why this is the case in his thirty-minute lecture.
