Wissen Unplugged - Demokratie durch Erinnerungskultur stärken

In the organizer's words:

Are we remembering correctly? How we strengthen democracy through a culture of remembrance

The culture of remembrance that has often been described in Germany is increasingly being challenged: The number of right-wing extremist crimes is at an alarming high; around 40% of 18 to 29-year-olds in Germany do not know how many people died as a result of the Holocaust, and while more and more constituencies are turning blue, anti-Semitism is becoming socially acceptable again. In this episode of Wissen unplugged, we therefore explore the question of whether and how remembrance of the Holocaust and the National Socialist era can be rethought and better communicated today.

Together with experts from academia and practice, we examine how remembering our history can strengthen democracy today. What are the requirements for drawing lessons from this dark chapter of German history for decisive action that will protect our democracy in the long term? What innovative ways are there to make remembrance tangible and relevant for society? And what role can digital formats and places of remembrance play if we soon have to continue thinking without contemporary witnesses?

Amna Franzke, format developer at ZEIT ONLINE, and Rahel Klein, presenter at Deutschlandfunk Nova, will guide us through this exciting evening.

Let's reconstruct the path of remembrance so far and examine the connection to our democracy!

Afterwards, we invite you to join the speakers and other participants for free drinks and snacks, to ask questions and to deepen the exchange.
