Wochenmarkt Bönischplatz

Every Wednesday, the Johannstadt neighborhood can expect a wide range of regional and healthy products: from fruit and vegetables, meat and fish to soups and herbs as well as snacks.

The Bönischplatz weekly market is the first of its kind to involve partners from the immediate neighborhood. The German Market Guild and the Johannstädter Kulturtreff jointly organize changing highlights that fit in with the urban environment. It all starts with Zafran Catering, a multilingual team that serves a special mix of high-quality Caucasian and Syrian cuisine. All dishes are freshly prepared.

Despite its small size, the Bönischplatz weekly market offers a diverse range of products with a particularly regional focus. City beekeeper Ingolf Döhnert explains the advantage of the location: "As a city beekeeper, I have placed my bee colonies at several locations in Dresden and the surrounding area, including in Johannstadt, very close to the new weekly market on Bönischplatz. My aim is to raise awareness of the endangered bees in Dresden and I am delighted to be able to offer my honey locally in Johannstadt. I also keep chickens on my farm, which have enough space to run around in a meadow orchard. I also sell the eggs at the weekly market on Bönischplatz."

Many ideas for the design of Bönischplatz came from public participation processes, such as the creation of a market area for a weekly market. The Office for Economic Development equipped the square with an open Wi-Fi network and created the technical infrastructure for market traders. Another new feature is a MOBIpoint operated by Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe in cooperation with TeilAuto, Nextbike and SachsenEnergie. There, citizens can choose from a range of environmentally friendly mobility options: Bus, car sharing, rental bikes and the city's smart electric charging stations.
