On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the German-Italian agreement on the settlement of Italian workers in the Federal Republic of Germany (The Recruitment Agreement), the Italian Cultural Institute Cologne is presenting the workshop and theater action (AKTION GASTARBEITER) with the Teatro Due Mondi on Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20 at its premises.
The aim of the workshop is to stimulate reflection on the relationship between Germans and Italians and how this relationship has enrichedthe two nations and their inhabitants thanks to what was originally only an economic and professional exchange. Based on the method of "participatory theater", which the group has developed and practiced for 14 years with its permanent intercultural workshop Senza Confini, the participants will develop a short theatrical action that will be performed to the public at the end of the second day in the rooms of the Italian Cultural Institute. The workshop is first and foremost a meeting space where people from different backgrounds, ages and cultures can relate and communicate with each other through theater. Participants are invited to bring testimonies, objects, stories or photos of people they know or of their children and grandchildren who experienced Italian immigration to Germany - as well as poems and songs relating to the period of migration. For their part, the actors and actresses of Teatro Due Mondi will prepare some short stories from interviews about the experiences of Italians who emigrated to Germany. Under the guidance of the actors and the director Alberto Grilli, the participants will develop choreographies and short actions that will accompany and alternate with the stories, also comparing the typical (and often stereotypical) gestures of Italians and Germans. Particular attention will be paid to singing, a characteristic element of Italian culture.

Founded in 1979 as a "group theater", Teatro Due Mondi has since been engaged in continuous artistic work with the aim of creating a "cultured" and at the same time "popular" theater (both indoor and outdoor) that is rooted in tradition but also speaks a universal language that is accessible to everyone with different readings and captures the urgencies of today's society. One of the objectives is to create a dialog with a disadvantaged audience (foreign residents, audiences far from cultural institutions and socially vulnerable groups, young people). In recent years, Teatro Due Mondi has taken its performances and projects all over the world, from Northern Europe to South America, Asia and Eastern Europe (more than 4,000 performances in theaters and venues in 36 countries on 4 continents).
