Workshop: "Was heißt (hier) Befreiung?"

In the organizer's words:

ZINE workshop "What does liberation mean (here)?"

In this workshop, we will artistically explore the experiences of people persecuted as Jewish who were deported to ghettos and concentration camps by the Nazis via the former Düsseldorf slaughterhouse: Who were the people who were deported? How did they experience liberation in 1945? What did liberation, return and a new beginning mean in concrete terms for the survivors in the post-war period? What challenges shaped their lives during this time? What traces did they leave behind?

We work with biographical sources, for example with reports from contemporary witnesses such as Hilde Sherman - and with zines: self-made booklets in which you can express and present your own thoughts and creative approaches to the topic using collages, drawings, texts and photos.
Zines are direct, individual, imperfect - and a strong way of making personal approaches tangible for other people. You don't need to bring anything with you - we come with materials: magazines to cut up, papers, watercolor and ink pens, typewriter, glue, ....

Cegerxwun and Eva from Erinnerungsort Alter Schlachthof will guide you through the workshop.
