WORKSHOP ZOO JUTSU

In the organizer's words:

Do you want to feel your body, romp around, playfight and wrestle? Then you've come to the right place! The ZOO JUTSU - Lab Cologne performance playfighting workshop requires few words. Through somatic methods and physical dialog, we gently get to know our limits and those of others. Movement practices such as fighting, romping and wrestling then bring the group into an experimental and body-based communication far removed from spoken language.

Through movement, playful confrontations and performative rough-and-tumble encounters, we explore the world of physical dialog. In doing so, we train our bodies in sensitivity and resilience in order to be prepared for the age of multi-crises. A utopian space in which things, discourses and issues are negotiated on a physical level and a blueprint for practicing sensitivity and tolerance of ambiguity for diverse bodies and their realities. In short: a loving duel in a world of different physicalities.

What can I learn from my wrestling partner and how can I unlearn my movement patterns? What emotions drive the physical dialog? How can we create a space of mindfulness together and how can I establish and maintain this space in my everyday life?

No previous experience in dance, performance or playfighting is necessary. All people with and without physical disabilities who are interested in movement, performance and experimental encounters can take part. We will make the workshop as accessible as possible.

Collective Zoo
The collective ZOO are Anja Plonka, Constantin Leonhard and Jens Eike Krüger. ZOO collages and intervenes in urban spaces and theaters with everyday actions, choreographies and incidental material. They work with documentary, installation and choreographic means. Discursive contradictions become the accelerator of the actions and aesthetics. Their artistic research began with the choreographic potential of shattering, pulverizing, decomposing and breaking furniture with everyday bodies.
