The genie is out of the bottle and we won't be able to get it back in. The genie is called artificial intelligence and the question of whether AI enriches or threatens our lives seems to be completely open at the moment.
This ambivalence is also experienced by musicians, for whom AI is a fascinating new instrument on the one hand, but can also turn out to be a frontal attack on their profession at the same time. AI makes music, is already taking over the creative work of composition, interpretation and production and is thus increasingly threatening the economic basis of music makers.
This evening will show what AI music generators can do and how they are used. It will be discussed whether AI is a new creative playing partner or the final enemy for creativity and the music profession. The completely unresolved issue of copyright will also be discussed. Visitors are invited to take part in the discussion.
Music will of course also be made, quite traditionally, but also with AI support.
The guests in this word club are:
Mathias Dieth, copyright lawyer and guitarist from Cologne
Stephan Baader, musician and producer from Dortmund
Zara Gayk, communication designer and digital artist from Wuppertal
Keith Powell, musician, producer and AI producer
Numinos, lecturer for production technology, sound and effects at the Folkwang Institute for Pop Music in Bochum
Thomas Koch, journalist and presenter of the evening and creator of a WDR feature on the topic, which is recommended as an introduction.
