On becoming and passing away on the Arabian Peninsula
Lecture by Nadine Pungs and Lutz Jäkel
Cheerful, serious and touching stories that don't appear in the news.
For years, Discovery Days and El Mundo winners Nadine Pungs and Lutz Jäkel have been collecting stories from people who live, love, argue and laugh on the Arabian Peninsula, a region that is characterized by negative headlines and clichés. In their award-winning live reportage, Pungs and Jäkel do away with these stereotypes and tell of desert woe and climate change, of warmth and destruction, of growth and decay. The writer and the photojournalist always traveled separately, as they knew nothing about each other. Their travels took them to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Yemen, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, until one day Pungs and Jäkel decided to set off for Iraq together. In the end, the two have collected cheerful and touching stories and photographs from all the countries of the Arabian Peninsula, stories that don't appear in the news.
