Yasmine Hamdan | I Remember I Forget - Tour

The Lebanese singer and songwriter Yasmine Hamdan was once described as an "underground icon of Lebanon" before she entered the international stage. With Soap Kills, she founded one of the first indie bands in her country, and as a solo artist she inspired many people with albums such as "Ya Nass" (2013) and "Al Jamilat" (2017), on which she mixed the influences of her indie socialization with the sounds and moods of traditional Arabic songs from the 1940s to 1960s. Yasmin Hamdam writes her lyrics in Arabic, French and English - and displays a poetic sensibility in each language, but also often a biting, critical sense of humor. Many discovered her through the Jim Jarmusch film "Only Lovers Left Alive", in which she makes a cameo appearance.

Now, for the first time in a good eight years, Yasmine Hamdan is releasing a new album, which she will present on a European tour with three stops in Germany. "I Remember I Forget" will be released on September 19 and is of course strongly influenced by the political situation in Lebanon - which she calls "a tiny country with a gaping wound". Yasmine Hamdan says of the first single "Hon": "It was the first song I wrote for my new album. The lyrics came out of this experience - a rupture, an inability to distinguish between here and there. I wrote the lyrics with Palestinian poet and friend Anais Alaili after August 4th, but they seem to be inextricably linked to what we've experienced in the last year and a half."
