Yazz Ahmed Quartet - A Paradise In The Hold

Fourteen years have passed since Yazz Ahmed's debut album "Finding My Way Home". During this time, the horn player and trumpeter has continued to refine her style. She has been in the studio with Radiohead and on tour with These New Puritans, among others. Her fourth solo album "A Paradise in the Hold" was released in February of this year. The British-Bahraini artist's "Psychedelic Arabic Jazz" combines hip UK jazz with electronic elements and Arabic influences. It was helpful that a quarter-tone flugelhorn was developed especially for her, with which Yazz Ahmed can approach the spiritual sound of the Arabic 'Blue Notes'. On "A Paradise in the Hold", which the Guardian included on its list of the "Best Albums of 2025 so far" back in June, the musician also experiments with Arabic wedding songs or the traditional song of the pearl divers of the Gulf region known as Fijiri, which is even recognized as an intangible world cultural heritage.
