Yazz Ahmed

With her debut album La Saboteuse, released in 2017, trumpeter and horn player Yazz Ahmed impressed critics and music lovers alike. This was preceded by a remarkable career start as a sidewoman in pop and rock bands such as Thom Yorke's Radiohead. Equipped with a keen sense of electronic sound design, the British-Bahraini artist weaves musical elements from the contemporary UK jazz scene as well as traditional Arabic influences into her work. Her quarter-tone flugelhorn, an instrument specially developed for her, allows her to approach the character of Arabic 'blue notes' in her compositions, which can be experienced in a wonderful way on her latest album Polyhymnia.
