Yoana Tuzharova - NEW ROOTS

In the organizer's words:

The work will be presented for the first time at the opening of the exhibition Yoana Tuzharova - In the Appearance of Things in the project space.

The video work NEW ROOTS continues the visual and conceptual vocabulary of the works Adaptation and Socio Garden, in which Yoana Tuzharova explores biological systems, mechanical image reproduction and social transformation. In these works, square plant images appear as archives of alternative ideas of nature.

In the project space, Tuzharova brings these forms to life: In a fictitious landscape, a tree grows out of the earth - an appearance that seems like a mistake, a glitch in the natural system. The shape of this tree, at once geometric and organic, defies the principles of known evolution.

It is precisely this deviation that is the central tipping point of the work. A square leaf - a simple but non-organic form - is almost impossible to produce in the world of generative AI. The systems Tuzharova works with are trained for recognizability and probability. They reflect what humans have already shown them - in other words, the objectivity of the physical world. Anything that lies outside this norm is rejected or corrected by them.

NEW ROOTS is therefore an act of rupture: against the aesthetic self-affirmation of digital systems. Tuzharova does not strive for disruption, but for a precise modeling of a new order. Her aim is not merely to simulate nature, but to open up a space of possibility - a speculative biology that allows for forms that do not yet exist and may never exist.
