In computer science and digital technology, an octet (informally byte) is the term for an ordered combination of 8 bits. One byte can represent 28, i.e. 256 different states. Music is a game with an infinite number of states. The more participants, the wider the field of possibilities.
The ensemble around percussionist and composer Johannes Huck shows how many constellations and states are possible within such a large band line-up.

The musicians take up positions and interact with each other. They are the meshes of a large net and can shape and change the overall event through their playing and their connection to the others. The aim of the compositions and arrangements is to create as much space as possible for improvisation and thus generate a variety of spaces and spheres. Chaos vs. order. Fragility vs. stability. Simple and warm melodies against complex rhythmic and harmonic sounds. "Byte" consists of musicians from all over NRW. The interplay is tried and tested. The band members have already played together in many different smaller ensembles. Now the "Byte" project unites the eight instrumentalists.
