Zona Franca • Alice Ripoll & Cia Suave

In the organizer's words:

Passinho, Dancinha, Voguing, Samba, HipHop and Afro-House. Urban and popular Brazilian dances form the basis of the piece Zona Franca (Free Trade Zone). Choreographer Alice Ripoll and her Companhia Suave create a highly energetic performance: everyday and party scenes, singing, dancing, giant balloons and an exuberant variety of props form the ingredients for a contemporary ritual between vulnerability, deep-seated anger and unbridled joy.

The piece is based on the real socio-political experiences of the young dancers. They belong to a disinherited generation that has experienced a great deal of social tension and economic inequality. They now want to reinvent themselves in a Brazil that is characterized by a spirit of optimism following the transition from President Bolsonaro to Lula da Silva. What do these changes mean for society and for each individual?

Zona Franca 's infectious enthusiasm conjures up a vision of a world in which everything can be shared openly.
