The Chamber Orchestra of Europe (COE), founded in 1981 by former members of the European Community Youth Orchestra, has long been one of the leading international orchestras. Since 1994, this orchestra, which is still organized as a project-based independent ensemble, has been a regular guest at the Musikfest, this year for the twelfth time. Robin Ticciati, Chief Conductor of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Music Director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera and newly appointed honorary member of the COE, will perform a program that showcases the wealth of music from the first half of the 20th century. All of the composers on the program were in touch with the most diverse musical currents and were therefore stylistically pluralistic, yet never questioned tonality in their works of great expressive density. And when the South African soprano Golda Schultz sings songs and arias by Gershwin, Weill, Korngold and Bernstein in her Musikfest debut with her wonderfully warm, extremely expressive and technically flawless voice, it's perfect!
