Zukunftsforum Demokratie Bonn

In the organizer's words:

Democracy in danger - how to make Germany fit for the future

Discussion event and workshop on the topic of threats and future prospects for democracy in Germany and Europe.

We want to bring the social discourse to the wider society - experts at eye level with committed citizens. We offer open discussion rounds with experts for 200 participants.

Speakers

Speakers confirmed so far include

  • Viola von Cramon, former member of the EU Parliament
  • Alexandra Geese, Member of the EU Parliament
  • Thomas Franke, journalist and author
  • Prof. Andreas Fulda, political scientist, Nottingham
  • Valerio Krüger, International Society for Human Rights (IGFM)
  • Mattia Nelles, political scientist, CEO German-Ukrainian Office
  • Dr. Andreas Püttmann, political scientist, journalist, publicist
  • Dr. Andreas Umland, political scientist, journalist and Ukraine expert
  • Liusiena Zinovkina, Ukrainian human rights activist

We are in negotiations with federal politicians from the entire democratic party spectrum and hope to be able to name further participants soon. We are also hoping for the participation of a US Democratic politician and a spokesperson for a US citizens' movement.

Workshops

We want to encourage the participants of the event to take action in concrete projects. To this end, workshops in smaller groups will be offered during the event - to start initiatives that can be continued afterwards.

Workshops in smaller groups on the following topics are therefore planned following the discussion rounds:

  • Civil conflict transformation and political education
  • Social networks, artificial intelligence and the influence on democracy
  • New (grassroots) democratic forms of participation
  • Building / networking civil protest movements
  • Dealing with disinformation and influence campaigns by authoritarian regimes

Target group

In addition to multipliers, we want to invite interested citizens from different areas of society. Commitment to democracy is more important than prior knowledge and expertise.

With the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, questions of security and civil society resilience have come to the fore. We are therefore focusing on the exchange with Ukrainian civil society and Ukrainian refugees - also in order to learn from their experiences.

The event is being held in cooperation with CRISP e.V., Berlin, the Ukrainian Coordination Center Dresden and German-Ukrainian initiatives.
