PINA BERLIN' s Turkish Standards Quartet
Pina Berlin- vocals, ukulele, saxophone
Oğuzhan Altınay - guitar
Maik Kleer - bass
Alfred Mehnert - percussion
Pina Berlin returns "Back to the Roots" on the stage of Jazz am Helmholtzplatz/the Brotfabrik, because the singer-songwriter's musical roots lie in both Turkish music and jazz. Pina Berlin, the artist name of the Berliner-by-choice Pınar Tatlıkazan, wants to use music to touch people, awaken emotions and create connections. If you are wondering what Turkish jazz is and are interested in its international and political history, come to Pina Berlin's international quartet of Berlin jazz musicians on June 28, 2025.
Combined with elements from jazz music, you can expect an eclectic mix: from Turkish jazz pieces from the modern to the 60s, singer-songwriter anthems of the 80s, to the psychedelic rock of the 70s, to folk standards and Pina's own compositions. The band consists of Oğuzhan Altınay on guitar, Maik Kleer on double bass, Alfred Mehnert on percussion and Pina Berlin on vocals, ukulele and saxophone.
