The first moderated reading club for St. Georg starts in July: Zwischen den Zeilen.
We will meet there to talk about books that do something to us. As individuals and as a community. And we enjoy good literature together!
The reading club will kick off on July 25, where we will first get to know each other and our reading habits and favorite books. From September onwards, the meeting will take place once a month in the Kulturladen St. Georg.
Between the Lines will be hosted by author and editor Judith Schneiberg, who will also be bringing along the first book, Baba Dunja's Last Love by Alina Bronsky, in September.
In this impressive novel, the very old Baba Dunja returns - against all warnings - to her home village in the middle of the contaminated zone of Chernobyl. There she meets old companions and young lost people with whom she confronts life under extraordinary conditions.
Bronsky tells a story about dignity and self-determination and about the power of friendship and solidarity with quiet poetry, crazy humor and deep humanity.
We want to talk about all this, share our favorite passages, get to know the author and record what the novel has to tell us between the lines.
Anyone who would like to bring along a favorite book after this initial immersion is cordially invited to do so. The draw will decide which book will be read next.
Most of the books can be borrowed from the Hamburger Bücherhallen, but we recommend using the reserve function so that all club members can get to grips with the respective work on the date.
As the number of participants is limited, please register in advance at: info@kulturladen.com
Participation is free of charge.
