BETWEEN BACK AND FORTH - MY ESCAPE FROM SYRIA
By and with Malak Kadour
Malak is eight when her parents are forced to flee with their family - from the war and the bombings that began when she was four, and from the repression that the Assad regime threatens the family with. Together with her parents and siblings, she experiences the flight across the Mediterranean and the Balkan route from her young perspective, with all the terrifying hardship and the small moments of beauty that she finds in it as a child. At the age of 14, the young woman from Oldenburg began to record her story based on a homework assignment and to remember her experiences in writing as a teenager. This resulted in her book "Zwischen Hin und Her. My escape from Syria", which is now coming to the stage of the Oldenburg State Theater.
Malak Kadour herself is part of the development of the project, which will also allow other Oldenburg residents who have had to experience flight to have their say. Together, away from the current inhumane political debates about migration, the aim is to take an empathetic look at how a child experiences the flight for life and freedom.
Malak Kadour's book has been published by Global Music Player Verlag.
