In the sixth edition of the Month of Contemporary Music (September 1-30, 2022), Berlin musicians*, composers* and ensembles will once again present a wide variety of artistic positions in concerts, performances and sound installations at both the major concert halls and the stages of the independent scene.

To call the month of contemporary music a festival is actually pure understatement. With its approximately 150 events on 65 stages in just four weeks, the Month of Contemporary Music is not only pure overkill, but also a reliable gauge of current trends in contemporary music. On the one hand, because its program is not curated by a central office, but arises directly from the independent scene. And on the other hand, precisely because it unites under its roof a multitude of the most diverse artistic approaches, whose overlaps and lines of connection among themselves reveal Berlin's heterogeneous community.

This year's sixth edition is characterized by musical and intermedial border crossers and an in-depth exploration of new approaches to transtraditional music. Also clearly perceptible is music's growing urge to take a stand on social and political issues. Many of the projects illuminate the relationship between art and activism, sound and ecology, and aspects of coming together from different perspectives. Current composed chamber and organ music with numerous world premieres and Berlin specialties such as sound art, real-time music and improvisation are of course not missing in this September program. In addition, there are two festivals dedicated to electroacoustic music. Participatory formats and an offer for children and young people invite you to touch and join in.

The opening on September 2 in the FAHRBEREITSCHAFT at 7:30 p.m. will feature new and current works dealing with the phenomenon of the street. For this, Ensemble KNM Berlin will collaborate for the first time with the turntable duo Vinyl -terror & -horror, who will compose a new piece and perform it themselves, while Vladimir Gorlinsky's piece "Spatial Flashes" will incorporate public space and Anton Koshelev's "Complex personality" will seek the interaction between individuals and larger organisms. Starting at 10 p.m., the evening, together with the district of Lichtenberg / Department of Art and Culture and the Long Night of Pictures, will offer an opportunity to get into conversation with each other, accompanied by music by Théo Pozoga aka Strip Steve and selected wines.
