From 1915, the old pumping station pumped wastewater out of Bremen until it was shut down in 1995. Since then, thanks to the voluntary commitment of the Altes Pumpwerk e.V. association, the plant, which has been largely preserved in its original condition, has been developed into a museum that is unique in its kind.
Take a guided tour of the historic machine hall and the underground sewer by former employees of Bremen's municipal drainage system. Marvel at the huge pumping units and get a real underground sewer feeling. In an exhibition, you will learn what Bremen was like when there was no organized wastewater disposal system. Let us explain to you what efforts are required today to keep the sewer network in order and to clean the wastewater.
When the machines were still roaring in the pump hall in 1995, who would have thought that concerts, plays, cabaret and other events would one day take place here. There is room for up to 130 spectators in the hall next to the old machine colossi.
Experience cultural events organized by the Altes Pumpwerk association in a unique technical setting.
