About us

The Youth Organization of the AWO Westphalia is the independent children's and youth association of the Workers' Welfare Association. As part of the AWO family, we share the basic values of democratic socialism: solidarity, tolerance, freedom, equality and justice. These values shape our actions and guide our work with young people.

What drives us

We are committed to ensuring that all children and young people have the opportunity to grow up well and participate fairly in society. Regardless of their origin, gender or social status, they should be able to develop their potential, experience community and develop into responsible and committed individuals. We create space for this, offer support and get involved.

What we offer

Our work focuses on group and educational work with children and young people up to the age of 30. We facilitate self-organized projects by young people for young people, offer educational courses and organize vacation camps as well as educational and memorial site trips.

Our offers are open to everyone and are aimed in particular at young people from our association area, which extends from Herne, Bochum, Dortmund, the Ennepe-Ruhr district, Hagen and the Märkische district as well as Recklinghausen, Münster, Warendorf, Hamm and Soest to Siegen-Wittgenstein and Olpe.

How we work

As a youth association, we are experts in child and youth work. We focus on voluntarism, participation and self-organization and see ourselves as a workshop for democracy: young people can try out co-determination and responsibility, experience diversity and shape community with us. In this way, we make an important contribution to democracy education and to strengthening an active civil society.

Strong together

As part of the AWO, we are integrated into a strong network of full-time and voluntary actors. Cooperation with local AWO branches, other youth organizations and partners from politics, administration and civil society is a matter of course for us.

Together, we express the interests and needs of young people and fight for living conditions and opportunities for participation that are appropriate for children and young people in our region and beyond.
