Memorial and learning site in Bremen-Farge
The "Valentin" bunker is the ruins of a German Navy submarine shipyard from the Second World War. Between 1943 and 1945, thousands of forced laborers from all over Europe and North Africa were deployed here: Civilian forced laborers as well as prisoners of war and concentration camp inmates. More than 1600 of them died of malnutrition, disease and arbitrary killings during the construction work.
In November 2015, the documentation and memorial site was officially opened as the Valentin Bunker Memorial. The exhibitions and other informational offerings commemorate the fates of over 10,000 people. The focus is on the conditions under which they were arrested, deported to Farge and worked on the construction site.
