The Haus am Lützowplatz (HaL) is an exhibition and event space supported by the art association "Haus am Lützowplatz - Fördererkreis Kulturzentrum Berlin e.V." founded in 1960. It was constituted in the tense atmosphere of the Cold War one year before the building of the Wall in West Berlin with the aim of redeveloping an existing cultural center at Lützowplatz. The founding members were all personalities from the Berlin SPD, the Berlin cultural scene and the trade unions. In the sense of the promotion and mediation and educational mission laid down in the association's statutes, the main focus is on the presentation of contemporary visual art, combined with building bridges to political and social reality. The Haus am Lützowplatz (HaL) is the place of critically reflected reality and value debates.
