The Herrenhausen Gardens consist of several parts: the Great Garden, the Berggarten, the Georgengarten and the Welfengarten. Their origins date back to the 17th century, when they were laid out by the Guelphs, one of the oldest noble families in Europe. The Great Garden is one of the most important baroque gardens in Europe and has retained its original design to this day. The Berggarten, originally a vegetable garden, developed into a botanical garden with an impressive variety of plants. The more recent Georgengarten and Welfengarten are captivating with their extensive landscaped parks, which invite visitors to stroll and linger.

The Herrenhausen Gardens are the venue for numerous events throughout the year. The annual International Fireworks Competition is particularly popular, where you can admire fireworks displays in a class of their own. In 2024, pyrotechnicians from all over the world will once again compete and transform the night sky over the Great Garden into a colorful spectacle.

The Herrenhausen Gardens also have a lot to offer musically. In the past, world stars such as Sting and Elton John have performed here. These legendary artists gave their concerts against the impressive backdrop of the Grosser Garten.

The Herrenhausen Gardens are located in the north-west of Hanover and are easily accessible by public transport. Plan a whole day to explore the various gardens. Start your visit in the Great Garden, where you can admire the impressive water features and the artistically designed flower beds.
