JUB – Junges Theater Bremerhaven

Since Ulrich Mokrusch took over as artistic director in 2010, the Stadttheater Bremerhaven has continuously worked on establishing an independent section for children and young people. With four premieres per season, the program includes plays for all age groups. From kindergarten age onwards, the JUB addresses the lives of young people in age-specific productions. Current socio-political topics can be found in the JUB repertoire as well as age-specific issues.

The initial JUP! - Junges Theater im Pferdestall was able to become JUB! - Junges Theater Bremerhaven (now JUB - Junges Theater Bremerhaven) in its own venue on Elbinger Platz. The collaboration with schools has been particularly successful. With discussions, rehearsal visits, scenic workshops or further materials, the theater pedagogy invites a variety of cooperation possibilities between theater and school. More than 26 partner schools from Bremerhaven and the surrounding area have entered into a long-term partnership with the municipal theater since January 2014. Schools and the municipal theater are thus jointly setting an example for cultural education in Bremerhaven. In this way, a new generation of young theater experts is growing up.

For many schools, cooperation with the municipal theater has now become an important part of their work. This is not just about understanding the language of theater. The shared experience of a play provides impetus for personal development as well as for democratic action and thinking - across all generations: "The Junge Bühne picks up on the themes of our pupils' lives, they experience theater up close, full of emotions that they can relate to. They draw their own conclusions and can apply them to their own actions. Forthis reason, the cooperation with the Stadttheater Bremerhaven is a valuable enrichment of our everyday school life, " writes Angelika Flißikowski, teacher at the Werkstattschule Bremerhaven.

In addition, theater enthusiasts of all generations can play theater themselves in the theater labs under the guidance of actors and theater educators.
