Hamburg's best-known shopping street is becoming the site of the largest temporary creative use in Germany. Numerous cultural institutions and creative professionals have moved into the former Karstadt Sport building on Mönckebergstraße by the end of the year, transforming around 8,000 square meters of vacant space spread over six floors into temporary studios, exhibition spaces, co-working spaces and production locations. The extensive project is made possible by the Frei_Fläche program of Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft and the Fonds für kreative Zwischennutzung.
